One toe at a time. 🚿

Welcome back to Sunday Scripture – a weekly three-card card reading designed to help you future-proof your week, providing guidance and insights to empower you to make better choices and decisions.

This reading is for the week ahead, beginning September 28th, 2020. BUT, as with all readings, if you have been guided towards this page at ANOTHER TIME: trust that it is MEANT TO BE and applicable to your life now. This has always been true for me and I’m sure it will be for you too if you can just sit back and surrender to the he/she/it that guides the way. There is a bigger energy present in all of our lives: patient, ready, loving (albeit in a sometimes brutal way), waiting for us to open up and let it in. The more you look, the more you learn to see. The more you listen, the more you start to be able to hear. Follow me on this journey and together we will navigate the winding path that is the fool’s journey.

As we move into the final week of September and the first week of October, the focus is on our emotions and how we nurture and manage them. We are also guided to express gratitude for all that we have, unearthing and uncovering treasures perhaps hidden to ourselves. This, we are told, will set us on the right track to feel fully confident and strong, should any uninvited tussles arrive. But pay attention… after a calm week, perhaps an emotionally challenging weekend.

This week’s reading comes from the Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot deck, published by U.S. Games Systems, INC., with artwork based on drawings by Pamela Coleman Smith. Check out their website if you like what you see and see or go to Amazon to get your own deck.

The cards drawn are:

  • Temperance
  • The Nine of Cups
  • The Five of Wands
  • The Wheel of Fortune

Watch the video below to get the full reading, then send me a message and share what it awoke or sparked in you.

Our card for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is Temperance and the first thing that comes to mind here are the words: temper your emotions. When I think of temperance, I think of temper and how we often let it get the better of us and lose control. How we let it overtake us and consume us. The message here is: you don’t want to cast a cloud over the start of the week by letting your emotions fly; you also don’t want someone else’s temper to rain all over you. In addition, this card is also advising you to spend time balancing and tempering your energy, releasing any trapped emotions, maybe some that you have been carrying for an overly long time, and assessing and strengthening your boundaries. Take this slowly, dipping one toe at a time into the water. Trust that the more you commit to this inner work and personal and ancestral healing, the more magnificent your life will be and the less people will try to psychically attack you. Be that which you wish to attract and in time your life will reflect this back.

Our card for Thursday and Friday is the Nine of Cups. Here we are being prompted to take a long hard look at our life and give gratitude and thanks for all that we have. And even if we might wish for a bigger house, better car, more money to buy more of the things we need; or freedom to travel the world as we please, visiting people, places and planetary treasures; or a better job, better health, better relationships, etc., we still have plenty we can feel thankful for. Make a list of what you feel blessed to have, to have experienced, to do, know, believe, etc. And work to add to it every day. Gratitude is like a garden: tend to it and flowers bloom, but neglect it and weeds grow.

Our card for Saturday and Sunday is the Five of Wands, which suggests a turbulent weekend. But this is also what the week has been preparing us for and we are ready for the challenge being presented. Anticipate conflict. Expect a jarring or clashing of opinion. Entertain the notion that voices will rise, tempers flare and emotions heighten. Do your best to stand your ground, speak your truth and stand up for what you believe in. Work hard to assert and protect your boundaries and you will suffer less at the hands fools. If you can hold your head up high, plant your feet squarely and send your roots deep into the earth, all the while picturing yourself as a tree, solid and unflappable, you will be well prepared. See this card is a test to your progress so far, how you respond to it a guide to where you still need to go when it comes to healing, growth and development.

And our bonus card, also for the weekend, is the Wheel of Fortune. This card suggest the power is ours and how we choose to respond to our week the maker of our fortune. If we have done the personal work and prepared, if we have chosen our battles wisely, then fortune is set to deal in our favour. But if we have squandered our week and played hookey from our responsibilities, if we have allowed ourselves to react, disconnect and get triggered, then the outcome might not be so kind. The Wheel of Fortune is a harbinger of change and allowing this can be difficult. But, whatever way the wheel spins and whatever direction your fortune unravels in, know that it is not permanent; for just as this came to pass, so too will other things. Nothing is constant, this is the only thing we can ever truly know.

Welcome back to Sunday Scripture, a weekly three-card reading to help you to future-proof your week.

Hello lovelies, this is your reading for the week ahead, beginning September 14th, 2020. BUT, as with all readings, if you have been guided towards this page at ANOTHER TIME, trust that it is MEANT TO BE and applicable to your life now. This has always been true for me and I’m sure it will be for you too if you can just sit back and surrender to the he/she/it that guides you. There is a bigger energy present in all our lives – patient, ready, loving (albeit in a sometimes brutal way) – waiting for us to open up and let it in. The more you look, the more you learn to see. The more you listen, the more you start to be able to hear.

As we move into the third week of September, the focus is on looking at and reassessing our boundaries around what and how much we take on, paying close attention to what we are carrying and what new tasks and chores we agree to add. Instead of all work and nothing else, incorporate play into your life and spend the latter half of the week enjoying and even sharing that activity worth others. That way, when it comes to the weekend, you will be revved up and recharged, ready to take on the world again as you see fit.

This reading’s cards come from the Dreaming Way Tarot; deck by Rome Choi, published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. with artwork by Kwon Shina. Check out their website – if you can find it (I can’t) – if you like what you see and see or go to Amazon to get your own deck.

The cards drawn are:

  • The Ten of Wands
  • The Queen of Cups
  • The Page of Wands

Watch the video below to get the full reading, then send me a message and share what it awoke or sparked in you.

Our card for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is The Ten of Wands. In it we see a man – worn thin, exhausted, bent double – picking up sticks. Yet as he stoops to pick the next one up, note how he’s also dropping several more from the pile he’s collected previously, sabotaging what he already has in attempting to manage and juggle more. This card is is telling you to stop being everyone and eveyrthing’s “yes” (wo) man and instead start becoming your own personal advocate, for if you don’t look after yourself, pretty soon you won’t be much use to anyone else either and nobody wins. Try putting down a few wands. Experiment with how it feels to have a “later” list and even to say “no”. Saying “no” can be super scary and even rock a few boats, but it gets easier and people do adapt. And soon you’ll be feeling so much better anyway, what other people say and think won’t matter so much. Start by listing the things you are carrying and sorting them in order of importance. You aren’t super human. You can’t be all things to all people. So work out who and what you want to serve and put that and them first. Later – if you have space, energy and time – you can add to this with things further down your list.

Our card for Thursday and Friday is The Queen of Cups, a super lovely and really positive card. Here, we see a woman and her child sharing a wooden throne, looking out across the landscape together. This card makes me think of a mother and daughter curled up on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn watching their favourite movie. It feels special because usually the mother, who is after all a queen, is working and the child is left alone to entertain herself with her own devices and here they are united in a treat, both indulging in time off. Take YOUR weekend early this week and put your feet up. You DESERVE a rest. Better yet, check in with your inner child and ask them what they would really like to do. Maybe they want to bake something or draw a picture? Maybe they want to go out foraging? Maybe they want to visit something of cultural interest or go somewhere entirely new? Whatever your inner child wants – and your real children too if you are a fur or skin child mother – indulge them for a few days in order to recoup, fortify, refurnish and restore. You will thank yourself for this later.

Our card for Saturday and Sunday is The Page of Wands, which basically means time to go back to work. After having treated your week like a weekend: the message now is treat your weekend like your week, taking advantage of all of the power and energy that slowing down and resting and playing has cooked up. There is encouragement here too, because in order to leap into this new space of creating you will need to get wet. That means take off your socks and shoes and risk damaging your pedicure because the real treasure is in that dark inner place where the things you resist hide. The universe is calling upon you to birth a new project, or to release the one you have been nurturing and cultivating for some time. But in order to do so you need to also get up close and personal to some of the things you have been carrying around in order to release them. To have a healthy birth, for that baby to be healthy, there first needs to be a purging – much like in an actual birth where the body rids itself of all that it has been carrying in advance of delivering the infant. First purge, then labour and deliver. Do it this way and you will be more likely to achieve the success of which you dream.

Hit me where it hurts πŸ’”

Sunday Scripture: to help you to future-proof your week.

This is your reading for the week beginning September 7th, 2020 – but as with all readings, if you have been guided towards this page at another time then trust that it is meant to be and applicable to your life now.

As we move into the second week of September, the focus is on weathering emotional injury (injury that is incurred as a result of the actions and words of others), turning our attention to new projects and rising above and riding the storm. In the first half of the week, we find ourselves challenged on multiple levels by those around us and their words and actions hurt. The second half of the week lends some catharsis to this in the form of purpose and work, providing us an outlet and a channel for our hurt. And the weekend opens up a space for introspection and self-evaluation, a time to be thankful for how far we have come but also to acknowledge the price we have had to pay and the storms we have and still are having to weather.

  • The Three of Swords
  • The Three of Pentacles
  • The King of Cups

Watch the video below to get the full reading, then send me a message and share what it awoke or sparked in you.

Our card for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is The Three of Swords. This card is often a difficult card, especially while we are travelling through it, but it is also a valuable resource and an opportunity to go inside. Find stillness and really take time to learn from your experiences. What are the messages that you are receiving from these altercations and slights? Get out your journal and make notes, you will look back and thank yourself for the gems you left. The Three of Swords tells us that the start of the week could contain some emotional conflict. This might be an argument with a friend, a disagreement at work, a lover betraying you, or a stranger flinging insults for no apparent reason. Or it might mean loss; loss of someone you really care about. All of these things hurt and the wounds they inflict last. Be gentle with yourself and find time to tend to this. BUT… this is also an ideal time to let the tears flow and really open up and empty out what is trapped inside your heart. What other long-held grievances are you keeping in there? What trials and traumas rest hidden so that only you can see them? Embrace the gift of the suffering this week and use it as a vehicle to release a life’s worth of carrying. Cry and be proud of yourself for the gift of this purging.

Our card for Thursday and Friday is The Three of Pentacles, a much lighter and brighter card than it’s sister above. This card is all about starting new projects, being creative and building things, and working with others to combine skills. And it’s about working on something of worth and birthing a project that is sacred, whether it’s sacred with a big ‘S’ and applicable to the world as a vehicle for transformation and healing, or sacred with a small ‘s’ and meaningful just to you. Perhaps, too, you could use this energy to transform your pain into purpose, betrayal into beauty, trauma into triumph, rejection into radiance, taking the hurts from the start of the week and releasing them here.

Our card for Saturday and Sunday is The King of Cups. This is a good end to the week as cups are all about love and relationships and kings represent mastery, so the King of Cups reveals our having achieved (or being in the process of achieving) mastery of these things. The king tells us we have a good grasp of our emotions having done a lot of deep inner work over the years, facing up to our demons and successfully releasing as many of them as was possible; maybe even more of them than we think we have. And for those we still carry, we are able to be honest about them now and are in the process of purposefully attempting to put them out. BUT… as we all know, some things – people, places, events – are harder to part ways with than others. However, doing personal work results in growth and growth results in becoming different from what we were before and therefore to those around us. So if you are feeling alone and without a tribe, because your tribe no longer feels like a safe, friendly space or a comfy home to reside within, have no fear. Your new tribe is coming, you are just in a liminal, central holding space where there is still old stuff that needs to be released before your true SOUL TRIBE can come in.

Do you have a resident energy vampire? πŸ§›πŸ»

Just going about our lives takes a lot of energy. We have tasks, chores and responsibilities, both to ourselves and others. Then there are our relationships and the commitment, effort and emotion we bring to them. All before we even get to work, appointments and meetings. And this is just the surface layer: our lives are full of so many different things…

Add to that world dramas – of which, currently, there is no shortage – and it’s no wonder we are feeling a bit lacklustre. Some might even say burnt out; fried by the constant push and pull of demands and the pace and passion of the media. I know I am not alone in having reached a point of overload.

Which is why self-care is so important. And why we need to get plenty of sleep and do things like meditation, breathwork and exercise. And take care of ourselves by eating right and living in a clean environment. There is a lot we can do from the ground up to support ourselves. But it is a daily job and sometimes it isn’t enough.

What if, despite all of this, something is still draining us?

What if part of us or part of someone else’s behaviour is sabotaging or taxing us?

This reading is intended to get to the bottom of what might be draining you, because we all have energy vampires πŸ§›πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ§›πŸ»πŸ§›πŸ»β€β™€οΈ in our lives!!!

The first thing to notice about this reading is it’s need for attention. Usually, I pull one or two cards and wait for that to lead me. If things are still unclear or if there is a need for further information about something the reading has brought to light, I will then draw more, using my intuition to guide me. This reading demanded five cards outright; three literally leaping out of the pack. The cards were full of energy and adamant they be heard, which only adds to the importance of their message.

The Page of Pentacles shows us where our energy is being spent; literally, as pentacles are the money cards. The Page is an enthusiastic childlike character, usually a student, intent on a learning and mastering path. He is either seeking to polish skills or acquire new ones. This Page is focussed on financial improvement and is hard at work studying something that will bring in money and grow his life in that regard. Indicating that you are expending considerable energy on trying to build your career or business, and that the leak is most likely, but not necessarily, related to something to do with work. Are you trying to break into a new area, acquire skills, breathe life into a static situation, or pivot or reinvent yourself? Dreams take focus, drive and energy. To counter-balance this, we must be mindful that we are also filling up our tank with plenty of self care. The mountains in the background indicate obstacles to achieving the dream the Page is picturing. Perhaps these obstacles are the things that are draining you? Can you think what they are? Can you shift them in your mindset so that they are more digestible and appealing? The Page is a power card and an energy card and one full of manifestation. When he is in our life we can celebrate: things are underway, we are building, life is changing. We just need to pay attention to and take extra care over the rest of our life, so that we stay healthy. When you were younger and you were studying for an exam, did you not eat right and make sure you also had plenty of rewards to keep up your enthusiasm? Your body needs this from you still, so pay attention to your present moment and be a good parent.

The Five of Cups seeks to explain where other parts of our energy might be being spent, helping to bring clarity to why we might feel like we are running out of it. After all, time spent studying and learning and acquiring new skills, although challenging and mentally draining, is positive energy usage and therefore self-charging. Don’t you always feel energised by learning something new; picking up a new insight? The Five of Cups, however, is a very different energy, because it is all about disappointment, despondency and regret. This card can simply be explained by the phrase “crying over spilt milk”. The character in this card is sad and distracted from his present life and its wealth by that which he has lost. He is stuck in the past, wishing things were different and could be different now. Where are you lamenting over things that are behind you? What do you regret not having, losing or breaking, even? Why is what you don’t have so much more valuable to you than what you have? This preoccupation with the past and things that didn’t turn out the way you liked, is your energy vampire. Think about who you might need to forgive and get on a path of releasing and healing. If you don’t want to do it alone, or can’t, a therapist would be useful and help make it easier.

Our next card, the Knight of Wands, is brave and energetic and full of enthusiasm. He is gainfully employed and happy to be serving both his kingdom and his community. This energy usage, although high, is positive, because it is the act of creation; so no need to worry here. The Knight, given his mission, has a clear picture in his head of what he is intending to accomplish, a strong desire in his heart of what he hopes this will reap, and a tug of intuition in his belly of how to acquire it. Therefore, if we are also the Knight, we are likely investing a lot of energy into our crusade – the crusade of the Page of Pentacles, the crusade to build the life we want to build in our world. This is not an energetic vampire, however, for the pursuit is one of enthusiasm and passion, and, like the Page, self-charging. This card merely shines a light on where energy is going. It is a window, not a call for attention or a cry for help.

The Ace of Wands is another manifesting card, in which we are using our wand – our creativity, our intuition and imagination – to create change. The hand coming out of the clouds indicates that we are channeling a lot of what we are doing right now directly from Source, (or our higher self, or our guides, or whoever it is we receive from). This work is tiring and takes a lot of energy, but it is rewarding too and so not the source of our exhaustion. But picture the image on the card, or see it in the video: you are attempting to create your ideal life – the lush green landscape, the full blue stream, the castle on the hill. This level of manifestation and pulling into being is hard work. Do not under estimate how much energy this is using. Appreciate that, and give thanks to your mind and body for staying strong for you. And, again, up the levels of self-love and care.

The Two of Swords concludes our reading and reveals to us the solution. We are at a metaphysical crossroads. We are pulling in different directions. Essentially, a stand off. In order to make the future arrive in all of its glory, as in arriving as a future we can be happy in and feel proud of, a future we are desiring, we need to let go of some things and make some decisions. These things are whatever the contents of the three spilled cups (see Five of Cups card) is for you. This card reveals that the reason things aren’t happening at the speed you want, the reason you are failing and being let down or feeling sabotaged, the reason you are drained, is because you are blocking yourself from moving forwards. You have shuttered your intuition and bound your true voice. You have stranded yourself on an inhospitable shore. And you are refusing to see clearly about certain things playing out in you life. Because of this, no ships full of treasure (see rocky shore, stormy sea, dark night…) can dock.

Watch the video or find the above cards, either in your own deck or from images online, and spend some time adding your own thoughts and realisations. This will help you to get the most out of the card and to implement the advice and guidance given.

How can I attract more clients and grow my business? 🌳

In any business clients are key, because without people searching you out who are prepared to pay for what you are offering, you are really just an uninhabited house full of useful things, a tv playing to an empty room.

Clients are eyes on the page, subscribers to your channel, people following and liking you. They are influencers who share, recommend and widen your reach. Depending on your field, they are like children seeking toys, companions, parents and cures… or adults sourcing solutions, tools and mentorship. Clients need to be celebrated, rewarded, honoured and appreciated for what they are, because they are not just a means to an income, but a family and a life tribe.

Finding your tribe, building your community, therefore, is the secret to success. But how do we get there if we are stuck on that journey? What is blocking us from building the business and the life we desire?

The King of Cups shows where you are right now, which is deep in your heart. You have desire, passion, a goal and dream… but you are led by your emotions. This has got you a certain amount of the way – you know what you want, you care deeply about what you are trying to create – but beyond that you are stuck. You keep implementing the same strategies, carrying out the same tasks, but nothing is really growing. By focusing on what lights you up and brings you joy alone, you are neglecting the other components necessary to make a business function. Or maybe you are being carried away by what is in your heart and therefore not seeing things clearly. There is a lack of balance here. You are awash in emotion. And as necessary as it is to be in touch with your heart and honest and accommodating of your emotions: it is also important to be grounded and practical. Do you want to be clinging to a concrete throne in the middle of a changeable ocean, vulnerable to every inner and outer shift? Wouldn’t you rather be sat reclining on cushions beneath a shady terrace overlooking a landscaped garden bordered by a gentle stream?

The Magician shows us what the King of Cups has indicated, calling for the cultivation of more structure, order and balance. A master creator, his trick is in bringing all things together. Right now your focus is from the heart, on everything represented by the cups and water. You are doing what you love and what brings you joy because this is what you have been told will be successful. “Follow your heart,”, “do what lights you up,”, etc. But in order to succeed, to attract more clients, to build your business and community: you need to also include the other suits; the pentacles, wands and swords. Lay them all out on your table, use them equally, polish them all as tools. You don’t have to know it all intuitively or even do it all really well, you just need to acknowledge where there is an imbalance or a deficit and find someone who can help you or teach you what to do. The more you lean into the energy of balanced creation – a little bit of earth, a little bit of fire, a little bit of air and a little bit of water – the more you will start to see a return. For just as a garden needs soil, sunlight, fresh air and rain: so do all things we are looking to create.

The Four of Wands is the big reveal, showing us what lies ahead. This card represents balance and harmony, as well as celebration, union, community, family, homecoming, abundance, fortune and success. Essentially, everything we want to have and experience in life. This is a thumbs up card for what you are currently trying to grow, the universe signalling to you that it will happen if you follow the Magician’s advice. Bring together all your talents. Balance any deficits. Seek mentorship or tutelage where necessary. The four wands illustrate that we have grounded our desires and used our emotions to water and grow sturdy legs, creating a table upon which we have laid a rich spread. In addition, there is a shady canopy providing space and protection for your tribe to congregate beneath. This is one of the most positive cards in the tarot and one to be excited about. There is greatness in your future. It is within reach. Knowing this you have everything that is necessary to dream and do big.

How can I be more successful in my career? 🎑

When it comes to success and career, we all have certain blocks. If we aren’t manifesting in the ways that we desire, chances are it’s because something inside is restricting us. Whether that’s a bad experience in the past, a childhood trauma, lack of direction, motivation, self belief, etc… the result is the same: we flail around treading water; working hard but getting nowhere.

This reading is intended to shine a light on one or many of these blocks in order to start you moving.

The Wheel of Fortune is all about decisions and choices. These are the roads that we can, want to, or are thinking about taking. Which can be a good thing, right?, because we like to have options and possibilities. But when it comes to career and manifesting and achieving financial abundance and success: sometimes less is more; sometimes we need to hone in on something specific instead of being a Jack or Jill of all trades. It’s much easier to do one thing really well than ten things moderately, and that’s what is going on here: you have too many ideas, skills, thoughts and desires, and they are blocking you. Cut through the πŸ‚ πŸ’© to who you really are at your centre and what you want to do with those skills. Making a decision will set you free.

The Ten of Cups shows you what is possible in your future if you do the work discussed above. It is within you to make a success of this and to achieve all you desire, not just abundance in career, but abundance too in love, and relationships and family. The Ten of Cups is the complete package of everything. Know that this is in your future and it will help fuel you when it comes to breaking free.

How can I find more joy?πŸ₯›πŸ₯›

In a world full of bad news and hardship, where at every turn and click unhappiness is projected outwards, it can be hard (even for the most fortunate) to remain untouched. For those who are experiencing their own dramas; who have suffered rejection, abandonment, betrayal and loss… finding and holding onto that joy can be that much more difficult.

This reading is intended to give you a broader perspective, along with gentle guidance, on how you can better manage and walk your life path.

The Queen of Swords πŸ—‘ encourages you to sit proudly upon your throne, the mistress of your queendom. There has been hardship, difficulty and loss and, at that, there has been (and still is) pain. This has stretched you and grown you and strengthened your resolve. It has given you your wisdom and access to your inner truth and outer voice (even if you haven’t found ways to honour and express it yet). Pay attention in this hour of searching and questioning to practices that can help ground you. Focus on your feet and your foundations. Work to really anchor your roots. Plant, not just your feet, but your legs, spine, throat, neck and head also. Your voice is your super power, a channel for expressing the very essence of you, but your feet are your roots and it is from them that the food, energy and life force you need to think, act and do is delivered. Create a strong channel. Knowing and owning your truth, honouring and feeding it, is the surest way to reunite with your joy.

The Five of Cups πŸ† I nvites you to take the road less travelled, to leave behind that which you once held dear but which has ceased to support you. It has cast you out anyway, so you might as well stop lingering on its threshold, eternally lamenting over things past, and instead turn towards the future and walk away. Your coveting the past, hoarding it’s memories in the hope that with time and focus you can bring them back, is like a dark-cloud cloak completely enshrouding you, and the sun, despite its valour and strength, struggles to get beneath it. Focus not on the three overturned cups, the opportunities, relationships and things that you have lost, but on the two remaining cups, the cups that are full. Express gratitude. Nourish and nurture them. Spend time honouring them daily. Then pick the empty cups up and (treating them like they are opportunities, brand new seeds that you can grow) work out how you would like to fill them.

Do I need to be worried about this and if so what can I do? 🀸🏻

When we have something on our minds it can be hard to find peace, which makes it hard then to do all of the things that people usually suggest. Meditation requires mastery of thought. Yoga demands embodiment. Prayer honesty and surrender. If our mind is too busy, our body in pain, our hearts full… all this is uncomfortably intimate.

At times like this a good conversation can help, so long as the ear is gentle, grounded and generous, a bit like the cards, who serve as a great second best when that ear is hard to locate and often have better advice than any one person, independently, is able to give.

This reading addresses a ‘something’ that might be weighing on our minds, whether that’s rooted in love, life, health, career or finances. I feel like the focus might be more to do with health, but how you receive and interpret it is personal to you. Whatever speaks the loudest is likely the message you were meant to receive.

The Hanged Man invites us to adopt a broader perspective, and to allow for other points of view. Imagine watching an episode of your favourite series over and over, each time from the vantage point of a different character. By the end of it you will have multiple versions of the same reality, all different because one person’s truth is different from the next, etc. This is the invitation here. Try on different hats. Walk in borrowed shoes. See what fits. You have options and you get to decide.

The Two of Cups then encourages us to reach out, taking the information we have gained and weighing it up against the intuition and wisdom of a carefully selected other. In a health reading, it indicates things should be coming back into balance very soon.

This reading indicates that, with a different perspective and way of looking at a problem, a path to an alternative destination can be found. We know this because the Two of Cups promises a favourable outcome and a return to balance. Maybe we just need to surrender our current point of view, opening ourselves up to the possibility of multiple realities and multiple outcomes on a quantum level. Our future is malleable. It changes from moment to moment with every decision we make. If we can find ways to make better decisions, educating ourselves as much as possible in multiple things, in things we might not even believe in at first glance, we can change what is true for us right now.Β

The Queen of Pentacles

INTRODUCTION:

This is a two-card reading, with the first card representing the present and the second what is blocking you from what you would like. The deck used is the Original Rider Waite Smith.

~

OVERVIEW: THE SUIT OF PENTACLES:

The suit of Pentacles represents abundance, manifestation, realisation, material possessions, health, wealth; work, business, career success. It is about our outer surroundings, the physical world; how we create, shape and guide it. On a more esoteric level, it is also about the ego and how we let it and not our higher self determine that journey. For this reason, it can also represent possessiveness, jealousy, over-indulgence, greed, materialism and selfishness.

It’s element is earth and its season is Autumn; or, if we are looking at timing, years.

Pentacles people are serious, hardworking, practical and realistic. And while they might like dreaming about what they want, need, wish they had, etc., they never lose themselves in the future; they will not wait to win the lottery: they will live their lives, doing their best to create their own fortune. They are also loving, kind and tactile/kinaesthetic, relating to the world and their surroundings and filling themselves back up through the practice of touching, feeling, smelling, tasting, hearing, etc…

*

THE SUIT OF CUPS:

The suit of Cups represents our heart and how we see, hear, feel, live and create from inside. It is all about our emotions, feelings and mental well-being and determines the quality of our inter-personal relationships, interaction with others and connection to the surrounding world. It is spontaneous, passionate, authentic, honest, optimistic, romantic and imaginative. As a result, it can also represent the opposite – especially when drawn upside down, as it was in this particular reading: indicating a situation or person who has untidy/mismanaged energy, is emotionally unbalanced, disengaged, dispassionate, unrealistic and fantastical. There will be unresolved traumas and issues and negative compulsions and behaviours blocking their Path.

It’s element is water. And it’s season is Spring.

Cups people are highly-sensitive: they feel everything inside. They love with every molecule in their body and care deeply about others and the world. Because of this, they get hurt often and easily by simple interactions which would not bother others: a snub remark or careless comment can injure them. In a bid to protect themselves, they have a tendency to overreact: jumping in fear to defend themselves when there has been no intended slight.

IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: THE QUEEN OF PENTACLES

The Queen of Pentacles card stands in the position of the present; it tells us about where we have come from, what we have been through and where we are now. It is a card full of emotion: of things pent-up, repressed and/or denied. And even though the card was drawn the right way up in this instance, usually pointing to a reading indicating manifestation, accumulation, prosperity and success… the energy coming through, especially when paired with the Ace of Cups which crosses it, leans me to intuit and report the opposite.

Let’s unpick the image slowly to understand why:

POSITIVES:

β€’ cheerfully coloured in yellow, blue, green, orange, pink and red
β€’ landscape ripe and abundant, rich with flowers and fruit,
  roses and tulips
β€’ rabbit – suggesting energy, strength, youth, birth, fertility and new life
β€’ queen is sat beneath a canopy of flowers
β€’ sun is shining
β€’ background is gold
β€’ throne: big and strong and finely made
β€’ clothing: expensive and tailored
β€’ gold coin, engraved with a pentacle
β€’ she, the queen, sits: grounded, surrounded by a reality of her own making
β€’ setting looks warm and balmy
β€’ feels peaceful and relaxed
β€’ energy is slow and somnolent

I imagine a rich mountain pasture or meadow, an accompanying orchestra of birdsong and crickets, a tinkling goat bell, the bleat of a sheep, busy bees… The trees overhead creak gently as a bird shifts. There is the melody of a stream playing out in the distance. Occasionally, there is a sigh as the queen shifts, stretching her arms and legs. Her dress and cloak rustle against the cold hard throne; she cannot get comfortable no matter what. With the side of her sleeve she polishes the coin, continuing until her arm is tired and its surface is a mirror. Inside she can see her face: a wistful woman looking back, tired and worn. Childless, widowed or single, bereft of one or more important family members: her heart is made of water and ice. Having been denied within her personal life and internal world the abundance she is seemingly creating all around her, she looks upon the landscape with its roll-call of flowers and feels hollow and empty. She has made things, she is surrounded by accolades and achievements; she sits up high on her throne, central in her kingdom – and yet she is profoundly alone, her life a puzzle of misplaced and missing pieces.

*

NEGATIVES:

β€’ rabbit is running
β€’ throne is:
   β€“ grey
   β€“ stone
   β€“ covered in disturbing carvings
β€’ there are blue/grey mountains in the background, barren and cold
β€’ gold coin, oppressive and heavy
β€’ crown, more befitting of a man
β€’ clothes too large
β€’ posture stooped
β€’ face down-turned, pensive and sad
β€’ lethargy in her body, and despair
β€’ I feel acutely sorry for her, like weeping

So while I am looking at an image of wealth and prosperity; feasting on splashes of vibrant colour, rich indulgent landscapes, floral festivity, accumulation, decadence and ownership: the queen at its centre, our main concern and focal-point, looks detached and sad: lost in thought, preoccupied by problems in her own personal relationships and/or her domain.

Maybe the coin in her lap is to blame?

It is very large and must therefore also be very heavy too.

Did she sacrifice too much in its attainment?

Has she had to fight to keep it close?

Has she lost things and people she cared about in its ownership or protection?

She is staring into it as if it were a crystal ball, as if the answers she seeks might be lodged there.

What does she regret?

What does she desire?

What does she long to undo?

Maybe what she holds is an imaginary coin – real wealth on a physical level still alluding her?

It could be all and any of these things. Answer the questions, look at the card and read it intuitively, then summarise what it means to you.

*

I feel that the role is stifling her, that she longs to be released from her obligations, that she feels the weight of the world on a daily basis, and that she carries too much in her mind and on her frame.

Why are her clothes so much bigger than her frame, their fabric thick and heavy?

Why does her crown suggest that it was made for a man?

Why is her throne covered in ghost-like wraiths and demonic-looking creatures?

It feels like she is imprisoned in a masculine role, having perhaps lost her husband, brother or father and been forced to then inherit. It doesn’t strike me as a gentle kingdom: one full of laughter, fun, lightness and life. It looks serious, heavy and hard, full of burdens and responsibilities.

Even with the flowers, which typically are full of positive energy, potential and new life: there is the feeling of oppression and being closed in. They feel as if they mean to devour or stifle her, inhabiting her person and throne like a garden gone to weed.

Look how bright the sun is; the sky without a trace of blue. Imagine sitting beneath it for hours and hours. Breathless, devoid of space and movement and breeze: it would drain and harm you.

The ground by her feet is also barren, with great big bald patches spilling outwards – further evidence of the neglect we are witnessing. It’s almost as if she sits in the middle of the jungle – her kingdom the Congo, wild and untamed; her life dictated by the political climate and the changeable nature of her family and friends.

As I sit and stare into the card, my eyes keep coming back to the throne and it’s nightmarish creatures. Here is a queen dressed like a person who believes in human kindness and God, who looks like she goes to church on a regular basis, says her prayers and tries at all times to be nice. But she is sitting in a chair that is designed for ritual and sacrifice and waking the dead. I could not sit even for a moment in that chair, without feeling immediately compelled to leap out.

*

SUMMARY:

The Queen of Pentacles represents prosperity, security, hard work, practicality and independence. She is caring and kind and gives freely to others. She is a good mother, both to her family and friends: the person you go to for comfort and advice when you need help. She is grounded and down to earth. She does not live in the clouds but exists in reality, sourcing from her surroundings, from things that are visible, imaginable and tangible. She sees the world as a puzzle, everything inside it a lesson to learn about life. She is highly creative and thinks outside of the box. She is resourceful and versatile and has an answer for most problems that present themselves. She is a descendant of Mother Earth, good at growing things on the physical plane – be it a beautiful garden, a delicious meal, a family, a successful business and career…

In this reading, she speaks of a situation that has been hard-won and things that have been lost: a person who is in mourning for their passing. For while there has been some measure of success (the measure varying for each person reading this article…), of changing and obtaining: there has also been the need to let go of and lay much aside.

Have you had to sacrifice things that were important to you?

Have you had to walk away from people you love?

Have you had to leave one life behind in order to embrace another?

Have you been working too hard for too long without a break?

Do you have enough fun in your life?

When was the last time you laughed until you collapsed on the floor, ran out of breath, hurt your stomach or cried?

Are you holding onto things that you know you have to release?

Be honest about these things. Ownership is the first step towards resolution.

*

CONCLUSION:

There is conflict in your life, and repression and denial, and it is standing in the way of your happiness and growth. You have to let go of the past in order to embrace the present. And permit change in the present if you wish to manifest what you desire in the days and the years to come. And while this is hard and requires yet more sadness and sacrifice, it is for the greater good.

Have faith in the universe and trust in a better future. Embrace the help that surrounds you and all of its gifts.

IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: THE ACE OF CUPS

The Ace of Cups card stands for what blocks our path. It tells us what is out of balance, what needs changing and what we need to do in order to right the wrongs revealed in the Queen of Pentacles. It is all about contrasts and opposites; making sure that instead of just the one, we take both presenting roads – allowing and denying, laughing and crying, joining and rejecting, advancing and retreating, depending upon and choosing solitude – filling up with new experiences and opportunities and letting go of those we no longer need.

As a result, there is a lot of turmoil and what feels like an overload of emotions. Life feels intense, everything happening in technicolor: small things, like a simple disagreement, amplified so that inside they feel like World War ll.

Let’s unpick the image slowly to understand why:

POSITIVES:

Please note: to begin I am reading the card the right way up, telling the story as it is meant to be told. This is not the outcome for the reading we are working on. I am presenting it as a study aid, to help you to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the tarot and to learn as you follow along.

β€’ water:
  β€“ lake
  β€“ droplets
  β€“ five jets
β€’ ten * water lilies
β€’ ghostly white hand, surrounded by mist
β€’ golden cup or chalice
β€’ white coin with a cross in its centre
β€’ white bird, either a dove or an eagle
β€’ sky light and clear

Imagine the cup as your soul and the hand the ‘Hand of God‘ holding you up and giving you healing, (like reiki only much more powerful). As you receive it you are reconnecting to all that is sacred – remembering what you once knew, where you originally came from, where you have been, how it felt and why you are here. It has appeared out of nowhere to catch you – lest you fall and disappear into the the water below. Or else raise you up out of the edgeless lake you have been swimming in for many years, the carpet of water lilies the only things keeping you afloat. It’s touch is gentle and kind. You feel safe and supported.

While you are receiving this exchange of energy, you are visited by a white dove, which swoops down from the heavens and deposits a single coin in your cup (essentially the crown of your head). You immediately begin to weep, overcome and touched. The dove is an angelic messenger, the coin a holy prayer, the words the sweetest you have ever heard. You release all of the pain from your heart; empty years of hurt and anguish; feel yourself becoming lighter and lighter until you can stay afloat on your own.

His job done, the Dove returns to the sky leaving you in the capable hands of God. God shakes you, waking you from an enchanted sleep. You slowly re-enter the world. Inside you feel alert, alive, deeply rested. You also feel incredible peace.

* see this article on numerology to learn more about the significance of the number ten. Remember to then apply the opposite of these things to this reading: eg. abundance becomes lack, love becomes loneliness, confidence fear, etc…

*

NEGATIVES:

β€’ card drawn upside down/reversed: crossing your present,
blocking you from what is best
β€’ down-turned, disembodied hand: heavy and pressing
β€’ water above your head
β€’ lilies like a virus attacking your blood
β€’ five jets, ropes or chords: holding you imprisoned, keeping you suspended
β€’ bird flying up into you, invading, like rape
β€’ coin – less a gift, more something to shut you up
β€’ raining tears

Again, let us consider the cup as your soul and the hand the ‘Hand of God‘; only this time He is the God of the Old Testament, wrathful instead of kind; or else another presence entirely – like a ghost, phantom, spirit attachment, possession or negative chord… Instead of holding you up (see positive scenario…): He, it, is pushing you down, treating you as an obstruction/threat.

Perhaps it resents your desire for expansion and seeks to repress you before you can rise up?

Perhaps you are starting to shine too brightly, challenging its very life?

Perhaps your voice, silent for so long, is now speaking it’s truth and to the hand this is poison?

Look at how you are glued to its centre, rootless and stuck. Note how your base resembles a suction pad. Your stuckness is further amplified by the five jets, which here look more like vines or ropes. You are not releasing tears, emptying out your centre. You are being drip-fed stagnant water.

Imagining myself as the upturned cup (slender-waisted, wide-hipped), I feel like a patient on a mental health ward living off a diet of pills. Here the dove is a well-meaning nurse; the coin a tablet, a concoction of chemicals. I am branded with the letter M, which is the cry of the small me appealing to its supreme mother, begging for salvation and help.

So while I am looking at an image of love, support, compassion, reassurance, healing, forgiveness, rescue, remedy and repair: it is all turned on its head and instead the message coming through is one of sadness, isolation, aloneness and fear; a person living inside a situation or alongside a person that has them trapped.

*

SUMMARY:

The Ace of Cups is here to call our attention to the imbalances in our life, encouraging us to pull out and examine all of the constraints that contain us.

Who and what is keeping you small?

Where and when do you lose your strength?

What causes your doubts, your fears, your insecurity..?

Where do you lack love?

The right way up, this card is full of love, support and guidance. This is what you want more of in your life.

However, there is a lack, long overdue, stemming from school, home and childhood.

In opening up and learning to trust again, in re-evaluating your current image of God, in having faith in the universe and calling upon the help of all that surrounds you – friends, family, qualified professionals, your higher self and your guides, etc., you will slowly leave the darkness and move into the light.

*

CONCLUSION:

The Ace of Cups calls upon you to let go of all that no longer serves you, realising that it is these things and not the universe or God that is letting you down, for in allowing your circumstances and situation to guide you and call the shots, you are in essence allowing life to drain you.

No one has the right to tell you what to do, how to feel or how to behave. Only you control that.

If you are surrounded by negative energy, hurtful remarks, belittling opinions, people who seek to suppress you, etc., you need to exit that environment and return some balance to your life.

You were not born small. God did not intend for you to be powerless. It is only the words and actions of others, the hardship and pain of the world, that has turned your mind.

The Ace of Cups is an invitation: to rise up and take back control of your life, walking with confidence around the beautiful garden that you were given at birth and have, for your entire life, tended and nurtured; to see all of the wonderful things that are yours and know that you have it within you to do anything you want, change anything you don’t like… so long as you set your mind to it and believe in your own power.
